Right now, I'm feeling a renewed happiness and excitement for my Silhouette machine. The company just came out with a new one, called the Silhouette CAMEO™ but, alas, I purchased the "old" version this year and it really is such a fantastic machine. So, whether you can find the old one or are interested in purchasing the new one, know that it comes highly recommended. If you're not familiar with it, check out the links above. It is basically a digital die-cutting machine that works with your computer. I don't have the best setup at home to keep it out on a desk, so it has been in its box for the past couple months. However, I used it to cut out letters last month for a birthday banner for my nephew's 1st birthday and I can't tell you how much time that saved and the letters were perfect. Here's a picture (not the best photo, but hopefully you get the idea)...
Since the Silhouette was out, I thought I'd make a "Happy Birthday" sign and card I needed for a birthday at work, too. The sign...
Here's the card and the "Quickie Instructions" below the image...
Quickie Instructions: I cut out two decorative "bracket" shapes with the Silhouette. I then scored the top of one of the shapes, applied glue and adhered it to the "front" shape to create a card. I used Distress ink in Wild Honey to antique the edges. I made the bracket shape a bit smaller and used the Silhouette to cut out the smaller "bracket" shape from polka dot patterened paper. I white-washed the paper a bit using Picket Fence Distress Stain. After it was try, I adhered it to the card front. I then typed out the words "Happy Birthday Katrin" in the Silhouette software, using a font from my computer and cut out the letters using the Silhouette. I colored the letters using Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in Warm Violet. I glued down the letters and then applied glue and glitter around the edge of the cutout patterned paper to create a glittered border.
Supplies used for the card:
Oh my gosh, you've been busy! Love the banner, and the sign and the card!
